Sugar is made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. These are the basic elements found in all living things. Sugar is found in almost all living plants. Only certain plants have enough sugar that we can extract it to make the white and brown crystal kind we sprinkle on cereal and use in cooking and baking. Sugar beets and sugar cane are the main sources for refined, or crystal sugar.
